YOUTH MINISTRY

The Refuge youth group is dedicated to helping students grow in their faith, love, and dedication to Jesus and the Christian way of life we are called to live. We use Bible studies, mission trips, camps, retreats, service opportunities, and other activities to help with this growth and to live out our faith. We want our students to not just feel like the youth group is a place for fun and games or even just a weekly time of worship, but to feel at home and to connect with each other on a deep and meaningful level as we grow together in Christ. The Custer Avenue Church of Christ loves our youth and wants nothing more than to see them become the people God created them to be. Be disciples. Make disciples. Bring glory to God. That is what we are about at the Refuge. We would love to have you join us on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m.!

FAMILY MINISTRY

MISSION STATEMENT:

The purpose of the Family Ministry at Custer Avenue Church of Christ is to equip parents and grandparents to be the spiritual leaders in the home, the God-ordained “institution” for faith-building to pass on faith from one generation to the next.

I.     FAMILY MINISTRY

Put the father and mother back in the position of influence.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” - Deuteronomy 6:4-9

II.    FAMILY MINISTRY

Get the family back into the word together.

“…After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.” - Judges 2:10

One of the challenges facing the church is to nurture its members with biblical concepts of marriage, parenting and family living. (Providing tools and resources families can use).

Family ministry is pro-active in recognizing the forces at work before family conflicts become serious and working to promote healthy family relationships while they are still manageable.

III.   FAMILY MINISTRY Strengthen the body of Christ.

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.  For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:5-7

The church that cares about its members, will touch individuals where they live and help them to find more fulfilled lives as singles or married couples, as parents or children, and will have influence in the community -- others will take notice and be drawn to it. A focus on family life can assist in revitalizing the church and helping it to grow.

IV.    FAMILY MINISTRY

Get back to God’s plan for the family.

Genesis 18:19

Deuteronomy 4:9-10

Proverbs 6:20-23

Ephesians 6:4

Timothy 1:3-5

12 Step Recovery Journey

The Twelve Steps - A Spiritual Journey is a personal guide to understanding the spiritual power of the twelve steps from a Christian perspective. This material is primarily for adults who wish to get closer to God, but all are welcome. The Twelve Steps offer a way to grow beyond the harmful effects of a troubled life and receive a peace of mind that only God can deliver. Since the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous in 1935, the twelve Steps have become a way for millions of people to change the course of their lives.

Happy Kids Huddle

Education Ministry

As the center of our responsibility to “make disciples,” we place a lot of emphasis on learning scripture.  In addition to one-on-one opportunities to teach, we offer Bible classes for every age starting at birth and continuing through our senior years.

Thinking Man on Couch

Grief Ministry

The pain of grief touches every person.  Through our Grief Support Group and through individual counseling, we help people cope with loss and re-create their lives following that loss.

Old Friends

Senior Ministry

With the accumulation of wisdom and experience, our older members stay active in service to the kingdom and to one another.  Their needs and their talents are addressed in this ministry to the overall care and guidance of the church.
Our Seniors Ministery consists of four opportunities:
1. Help getting to and from appointments, including doctors, pharmacy and grocery stores, or any other situation where transportation is needed.
2. Help with simple household tasks that seniors shouldn't do, like changing lights, or batteries in smoke detectors.
3. A "Check on me" option for those who would like someone to regularly give a call to make sure everything is ok.
4.Outings to museums, restaurants, shopping areas, or sightseeing venues on a regular schedule.
